If there is one thing that Greece has going for it, it’s the mass amount of history and traditions that surround the islands. There are many different natural beauties to behold, but there are also quite a few historical monuments that are quite appealing. One of the most noteworthy structures in Rhodes is known as the Colossus of Rhodes. It is a massive statue that is surrounded by a lot of history, so it attracts thousands of visitors each year. I truly believe that it’s one of those things that everyone should experience. Let’s talk a bit more about the Colossus of Rhodes and why I think it’s a great attraction for anyone to view.

The Colossus of Rhodes is a statue of Helious, the Greek god. It is amongst the Seven Wonders of the World, and thousands of people line up each year to view it. The statue was built to celebrate the defeat of the ruler of Cyprus who was named Antigonus I Monophthalmus. It was once the tallest statues in the world before it was struck by an earth quake in the year of 226 BC. The scale of this massive statue is absolutely breathtaking and you’ll be in shock and awe once you view it.
There are many different speculations as to how the statue was constructed, so you may hear different stories. It was primarily constructed from iron bars and brass plates. The inside of the statue was filled up with stone blocks in order to reinforce the structure. A lot of the iron that was used in this magnificent structure was created from previously used weapons. This is a historical piece that was literally built upon rich history. That is why I believe it’s one of the most important structures in the world.
The Colossus of Rhodes is still one of the most beautiful and wonderous structures in the world. Many engineers are at a loss as to how it was crafted so largely and accurately with primitive techniques. The statue has seen quite a bit of history in its day, and it's had its share of damage. It's been torn down, reconstructed and so on over the years. It's certainly a wonderful region to visit and I believe that everyone should see it in person once in their life.
